Virgin Orbit just launched 7 satellites from a 747 jet

Virgin orbit, the launch of the small satellite launch of Richard Branson, has succeeded in sending its newest payload today, increasingly indicating the potential of the Boeing 747-based system Earth – virgin orbit rotates to take a different approach and potentially much more affordable.

It was known as an air launch, and it depends on the Boeing 747 aircraft which is effectively modified to spread rockets while in the air. Custom launcher rockets are transported in 747 to around 45,000 feet, and then they release from the plane.

After clear, shooting rocket machines and they accelerate – complete with charge – into space. The first launch, shown at the top of the page, took place successfully again in January 2021.

Today’s mission – virgin orbits called “bells tubular” – see the cosmic girl jet take off from the water port and space mojave in California. Once off the coast, the plane circled in what the company described as a “horse racing” pattern while waiting for the final permit to be launched. The separation took place shortly after, and then the first stage machine Launcherone was turned on to speed it into space.

“The initial analysis of the data told us that we were perfect about the orbits and our target load was mobilizing,” Virgin orbit was confirmed at 12:24 EDT.

Onboard is a four satellite cube, which was launched by Virgin orbit for the US Department of Defense Space Test Program. Two imaging satellites for satrevolution are also onboard, plus the final satellite for the Royal Netherlands Air Force. The company has a maximum charge of up to 500 kg per satellite.

It may not be some amount, but the company argues that the system can be far more cost-effective. Low, medium, and high orbits can be established after launcherone separately, and Virgin Orbit said it could be prepared for last-minute launch in a matter of days.

The part of the flexibility goes down to land-based support, designed by Virgin orbit to enter six cellular trailers. It can theoretically be moved to spaceport throughout the world, the company shows, allowing regional access and reducing time consuming transportation from fine satellite equipment.

While launch today there is no small achievement for Virgin orbit, the company hopes that it will soon be an ordinary thing. One of the main strategies for startup is to launch regular on schedule, knock on the economy scale to build commercial feasibility services.

Update: Virgin orbit has released a video when the launcher’s rocket is separated from the wing 747:
